Slacker!

I have been a major slacker and the running has went downhill...but, it's not all lost! I am getting ready to start back up...Lori and I have committed to running in the Susan G Komen 5K in August...we upped our 5K from October to August and now have alot of work to do to get there! We can do it! We will do it! Hopefully more updates now that the laziness has to end!

I decided to do today's run at the track instead of on the treadmill and all I have to say is Oh My! It was so much harder and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I set it at a certain speed on the treadmill...not sure, but I was so winded and so worn out tonight that I could hardly make it. There was another woman at the track who immediately started running and she ran the entire time, with the exception of the last lap - then there is me all winded and barely able to go after my minute of running. I needed the entire two minutes to recover before running again and then I thought I was literally going to pass out!
Honestly, do I think I'm going to be able to run an entire 5K...at this point, it's not looking so pretty, but I'm sure as I continue to train my endurance will get better. I can't wait for that point!

I'm looking forward to hearing about my friends journey...

I was so thankful for yesterday's rest day. After I got off work tonight, I headed back up to the track at Truman High School and completed my 30 minute walk - I did 6 laps in that time frame and so I was pleased. I was hoping to improve from the other day by getting in 7 laps, but that just didn't happen.

I do have to say one thing...shin splints = ouch! I started noticing this during my run on Wednesday and it was really bad during my walk tonight. I hope that this doesn't last long!

Tomorrow is another run day...looking forward to completing week 1 with a rest day on Sunday. I am hoping that week 2 will bring some progress in the amount of laps I am able to complete.

All I have to say is thank goodness for rest days!!! Day 3's workout was the same as Day 1, but maybe it's the build-up of the last few days - my legs are extremely sore today!
It's a good feeling though, knowing that I am working to get myself into better shape and having that finish line in sight!

There are somethings in life that are just better shared with a friend! I am so excited to be on this journey towards a 5K with my dearest friend Lori! We have our schedule - our plan - our journey awaits us...we will give it our best, follow our training program...crossing that finish line seems like such a sweet victory for all the hard work that will be put into this.

Day 1 was much better than what I expected - I was about 12 minutes into the program when I decided that I would stop at 15 minutes for the first day and then start 30 minutes the next...well, at 15 minutes, I didn't want to stop - at that point I felt like I was already half way there. It felt like such a sweet victory for me to just finish Day 1. I completed it and didn't quit!

Day 2 was a 30 minute walk - it was a good hard walk and I am sure feeling it tonight between both nights - it's a good feeling though...

The journey has began...
